Police Attach Moveable Property Worth Lakhs of a notorious bovine smuggler under New Criminal Law

Jammu, 10 June 2025 | In a major crackdown under the provisions of the newly enacted criminal laws, Jammu Police have attached a vehicle identified as proceeds of crime in connection with a bovine smuggling case.

The vehicle, a Mahindra Bolero pick-up bearing registration number JK14H/8740, is owned by Gafoor Ali, son of Mohd Musa, resident of Dhamma, Majalta, Udhampur. At the time of the incident, it was being driven by his brother Liaqat Ali, also a resident of Dhamma, Majalta.

The case is registered under FIR No.9/2025 at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act.

During the investigation, the vehicle was found to have been repeatedly used in the commission of bovine smuggling offenses. Both the owner and the driver are habitual offenders and have been involved in several such cases. It was also established that the vehicle was purchased using proceeds of crime.

Following due legal procedures and after obtaining the necessary orders from the Hon’ble Court, the vehicle was attached under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The SHO Jhajjar Kotli carried out the entire exercise under the close supervision of SDPO Nagrota, SP Rural Jammu, and SSP Jammu. It is pertinent to mention that this marks the second property attached under Section 107 BNSS in the Rural Zone.

The Jammu Police have reiterated their firm commitment to cracking down on bovine smuggling and other criminal activities, utilizing the strengthened legal provisions under the new criminal codes to ensure swift and effective justice.
