Hands-on Training Programme on Upstream & Downstream Processing of Industrially Important Products commences at IIIM

Jammu, 10th February 2025 | As a part of the institute’s annual Skill Development Training Programme, a five-day hands-on training program on “Upstream & Downstream Processing of Industrially Important Products”, commenced at CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, here.

In the training program, around 20 brilliant minds drawn from across the country have had the opportunity to participate and learn various skills and knowledge.

In the inaugural session, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, Professor of the Department of Surgery, Government Medical College, Jammu, was the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Bhasin spoke on “Antibiotics for Saviour to Destructor Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR),” highlighting the menace of misuse and overuse of antibiotics causing AMR and multi-drug resistance (MDR). He also underscored various strategies that can effectively combat the prevalence of global health challenges of AMR and MDR.

The event is being organized under the overall guidance and mentorship of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu. Dr Ahmed, in his motivating message, encouraged the participants to avail the opportunities available in the area of fermentation under the Skill India mission and contribute towards Viksit Bharat @2047.

In his opening remarks, Er. Abdul Rahim, Chief Scientist & Head, RMBD&IST highlighted the institute’s legacy and various ongoing initiatives taken by the institute for making India self-reliant in biopharmaceutical product development.

Dr. Vikash Babu, Principal Scientist, Fermentation and Microbial Biotechnology delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the comprehensive five-day training program. Dr. Asha Chaubey, Senior Principal Scientist & HoD, Fermentation and Microbial Biotechnology talked about the recent Govt. of India initiative BioE3 and highlighted the achievement of the FMB division.

The inaugural session concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Kanhaiya Kumar, Senior Scientist of Fermentation and Microbial Biotechnology, who expressed gratitude to the participants, speakers, and organizers for their contributions to the event’s success. Ms. Varsha Sharma, PhD scholar, conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session.

The inauguration was attended by several prominent scientists and researchers, including Dr. Anindya Goswami, Chief Scientist, Pharmacology Division; Dr. Shashank Kr. Singh, Sr. Principal Scientist, Pharmacology Division; Dr. Sumit G. Gandhi, Senior Principal Scientist & Head, Infectious Diseases Division; Dr. Qazi Naveed Ahmed, Senior Principal Scientist & Head, Natural Products & Medicinal Chemistry Division; Dr. Sundeep Jaglan, Principal Scientist; Dr. Vinod Kumar, Scientist.
