Jammu, 24 January 2025 | GDC Sidhra commemorated “National Girl Child Day” by organizing a mega event including a series of activities.
To begin with, the Women Development Cell, Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH), and NSS Unit jointly organized an “Awareness Lecture” on the topic “Importance of Women’s Physical and Mental Health.”
Dr. Sarika, Medical Officer, AHWC, Bain Bajalta was the resource person. The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Anu Sharma.
Dr. Sarika delivered an informative talk on this theme. She spoke at length about various aspects of Women’s health. She sensitized the students about the importance of women’s health as they are the progenitors of the human race. She also highlighted the importance of the mental health of women. She also talked about various social evils that pose stress to women’s mental well-being and added that we all should raise our voices to end violence against women, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, etc.
A medical camp was also organized in which female students shared their health issues with her to whom she gave a patient hearing and gave them her expert advice to resolve those issues. She also distributed medicines to the faculty and students of the College.
In addition to the above-mentioned activity, a “Poster making competition” was also organized on the themes “Stop violence against women”, “Safe workplace for women”, and “Beti Bachao beti padhao”. Several students participated in the competition. The event was adjudged by Dr. Anshu Gupta, HoD EVS, and Prof. Deepa Kak, HoD Education. The first position was bagged by Chahat Sharma of B. A Sem-VI, second by Suhani Aithmian of B.A sem IV and third by Priya of B.A Sem VI.
Principal of the College, Dr. G.S Rakwal also expressed his insightful views on the importance of this day. He further deliberated upon the significance of maintaining the physical and mental health of girl children by providing equal opportunities to them and ending any kind of discrimination. He further urged the students to spread the message of gender equality in society and practice the same on their part too.
A rally of students was also organized in which students spread the message of Gender equality. They sensitized the community and locals around the College about the significance of gender equality, the Importance of Girl children, ending violence against women, and gender-based violence, and providing equal opportunities to girl children.
Various faculty members from GDC Sidhra graced the occasion, showing their support for the cause. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Purvaiya Hans, NSS PO.
The program was jointly organized by Dr. Anu Sharma, Convenor Women Development Cell, Dr. Harpreet Kour, Convenor CASH, and Dr. Purvaiya Hans, NSS PO along with full support and coordination of other committee members under the able guidance of the Principal of the College, Dr.G.S Rakwal.
Activities were organized as a part of the Nayi Chetna 3.0 campaign launched by Govt. of India.
