Jammu, 08 August 2005 | As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Cultural Committee of GDC Sidhra, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science and the Department of History, under the aegis of IQAC of Government Degree College, Sidhra, Organized an event to Display portraits of unsung Heroes of Indian Freedom struggle along with their contributions.
In a significant move towards celebrating 79th Independence Day under the able guidance of worthy principal Professor Seema Mir, students of various semesters were briefed about the contribution of unsung Heroes by Dr. Meesha Bhagat, Dept. of Political Science. She highlighted their significant role in the Freedom Struggle and further stated that, unfortunately, their contributions were overshadowed by a few popular names in the history of India because they were not given due recognition, the way some of the prominent figures were celebrated in India.
The event organised was part of the celebrations for the 79th National Independence Day from 1st to 15th August 2025. A large number of students and teaching and non-teaching staff attended the event with full zeal and zest. Various faculty members were present at the event, including Dr. Harpreet Kour, Head Dept. of Political Science; Dr. Puvaiya Hans, PO NSS; Dr Anu Sharma; Dr Rudrika khajuria; Dr. Deepa Kak; Dr. Pooja Sharma, and Prof Jasdeep Singh.
