Jammu (Kathua), January 17 | The 31st Road safety week, with the theme “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha”, concluded here. The valedictory cum award ceremony was organised at Government College for Women, Kathua was DC, O.P. Bhagat was the chief guest and ASP, Ramnish Gupta was the guest of honour.
RTO Kathua Dr. R.K. Thappa, ARTO Neeraj Sharma, Principal of the College, DTI, MVIs, representatives of various transport unions and private schools, volunteers of NCC and NSS besides college students, school students and the staff members were present during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, DC appreciated the efforts of the Motor Vehicle Department for organizing informative campaigns with the active involvement of youth during the event. He said that these activities should not be limited to a week but it must be ensured that every stakeholder follows traffic rules while being on the road.
ASP said that traffic violators must be discouraged at every platform and professing self-discipline on road is the best way to demonstrate compliance.
RTO briefed about various events held during the week-long campaign and added that the main focus of the road safety drive was to create awareness among youth and through them among masses to inculcate the habit of following traffic rules.
He informed that during the week-long campaign, various events including exhibitions, Nukkad Natak, symposium, medical check-up camps, and workshops were organized to impart awareness about driving etiquettes, road safety rules and precautionary measures.
Later, prizes and certificates were also distributed among the participants.
