Jammu, February 05 | Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba organized Mega Poultry Event 2020 on 05-02-2020 for the benefit of the farming community. The event was organised to improve the knowledge of farmers regarding poultry business. In this event, all the stakeholders who are involved in poultry farming such as farmers, chick providers (Hatchery), about 15 companies of the national and international repute like Feed companies, Medicine companies, Government Animal Husbandry Department. The programme was conducted under the direction of Dr. K.S.Risam, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and was attended by more than 400 poultry farmer of different district of Jammu province.
Chief Guest of this mega event Dr. R. K. Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST Jammu inaugurated the Exhibition – Mega Poultry Event 2020 and declared the programme open. In his address, he impressed upon that Jammu and Kashmir are having a greater potential in poultry development. The farmers need to act upon the different problems related to Poultry business and find ways so that the Poultry industry in Jammu Kashmir (UT) may flourish and lead the whole country. Dr Rajinder Raina, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Guest of Honour, in his address advised farmer that consumption of poultry and meat Industry is more in our Union Territory as compared to other states of the country and looking into the import, farmers can really think of this business in a big way.
Dr. Vinod Gupta, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Samba and organiser of this event in his address stressed upon the farmers that Poultry Industry has a better scope and farmers needs to unite throughout the district and Jammu province as well to solve their problems so efforts from all the stakeholders can bring a boom to this poultry Industry. He also emphasised in detail about the various activities going on in the district by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba. He also told in detail about the various initiatives taken by the KVK for the welfare of the poultry farmers. Initially, Dr. Suraj Amrutkar, coordinated of the programme welcomed all the stakeholders and carried out the programme with the introduction and importance of the Backyard Poultry Farming in doubling the farmer income. He also discussed disease management of poultry.
The other speakers who deliberated upon the technical aspects were Dr R.K Sharma, Prof and Head, Animal Nutrition, Dr B. Brahma, Sr. Scientist, LPM, Dr. Pathak, Animal Nutrition, Dr Satpal Verma, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Sh Ajay Koul, Lead Bank Manager, Samba besides progressive farmers Rimpu Jamwal, Garhi Singh, Baljeet Singh who deliberated upon farmers problems related to poultry Industry and urged upon Government Policymakers and private companies to develop policies in favour of poultry farmers so that Jammu Kashmir can lead the country as a whole. They also cautioned that, if their problems are not being considered, this sector will be finished completely.
The others who participated in the event actively were, Dr Ajay Gupta (KVK Poonch), Dr Arvind Isher (KVK Rajouri), Dr Amit Charak (KVK Doda), Dr Rakesh Sharma (KVK Jammu), Dr.Vijay (KVK Kathua) Dr. Neerja Sharma, Dr. Sourav Gupta, Dr. Amit Mahajan, Dr. Shalini Khajuria and Sahil Talgotra.
At the end of the programme, the formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria.
