Teachings of seers, saints only way to attain peace: Dy CM

Dr Singh pays rich tributes to Lord Mahavira

Jammu | Dy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh today  said the teachings of our religious seers and saints are more relevant today and these need to be propagated, promoted and imbibed in  order to usher a era of peace and tranquility in the world.

Dy CM was addressing a function organized by Jain Sabha Jammu in connection with the celebrations of Mahavir Jayanti – birth anniversary celebrations of Lord Mahavira – at Gen Zorawar Singh auditorium in Jammu University.

Minister of State for Education & Tourism, Priya Sethi, MLC Ashok Khajuria, MLA, Rajesh Gupta, Financial Commissioner, Agriculture, Pramod Jain, representatives of Jain Sabha including families in large numbers were present on the occasion.

Dr Singh while congratulating the Jain community on the auspicious day of Mahavir Jayanti said the teachings of the great saints and Gurus like Lord Mahavira have great significance for promoting world peace and prosperity.

While calling upon the people to infuse such spiritual teachings in their lives to fight the challenges of today’s modern living, the Deputy Chief Minister said teachings of Lord Mahavira have more relevance in present time for heralding peace, prosperity and amity in the State. He said the present society is being guided by the materialistic pursuits and spirituality is the only tool to liberate it from this unending web of self-destruction.

He asked the people to follow the teachings of Lord Mahavir which reminds of the importance of practicing non-violence, compassion, harmony and peace in our personal as well as social life. He said we should also effectively propagate the teachings and the role of lord Mahavir among the younger generation, so that they are attracted towards the concept of Ahimsa, mutual coexistence and tolerance towards each other.

Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture Priya Sethi while speaking on the occasion said that the teachings of non-violence, truth and compassion enunciated by Lord Mahavira hold great significance in the present times and by following his teachings we can promote world peace and amity.

MLA, Rajesh Gupta also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the role and teachings of lord Mahvira and the Jain community of Jammu.

Later, Dy CM distributed prizes among the meritorious students, who had excelled in academics, sports and other fields.

A colorful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
