Jammu | Two-day Urban dance workshop by Manoj Rathod who was finalist of Dance India Dance concludes. Workshop ‘Urban Dance and Movements’ concluded here on Saturday.
The dancing aspirants enthusiastically participated in the workshop and learned about the basics of contemporary dance. The workshop of Urban Dance and Movements was organised by Kashish Thakyal and Sumit Manhas. Renowned Manoj Rathod dancer conducted the workshop. As many as more than 100 children participated in the workshop.
During the workshop he introduced various dance techniques, introduced the movements of urban and contemporary dance and body language.
During the dance workshop Rathod focused on using breath, flow, energy, gravity and release in the right time.
In last day a cultural programme and Battle round of the participants was held at Govermnent Polytechnic College, Vikram Chowk, Jammu, which is inaugurates by the Chief Guest Ex-MLA Bishnah, Ashwani Sharma along with Guest of Honor, Mukesh Sharma, Sub Inspector, Rehari, Jammu.
Sumit Manhas who is organizer of the event told in the workshop that it is necessary to have a proper distinction between dancers and dancers in the dance floor.
Challenging children physically and mentally is also a part of the work-force.
While talking about the dance form he said that body language is major criteria for the dance. he said it is important to keep body flexible and free at the same time to bring out the essence of the dance form.
Then he stated that it is also important to feel the music and feel the dance together.
On the concluding day, he not only interacted with the children, but also had fun filled activities.
The children not only learned the basics of dance but also grabbed much knowledge about urban dance.
It is noteworthy, that contemporary dance is one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world.
In terms of the focus of its technique, urban dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern dance’s stress on the torso, and also employs contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance.
Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used as well. While in battle round Manya Sharma wins the battle and get Rs 3000 cash price and Harshika got second round in the battle.
